🕯️ How to Burn a Candle the Right Way (And Make It Last Longer)

Simple candle care tips that make your clean-burning candle even better

Most people think you just light a candle and let it burn.

But if you want your candle to last longer, burn more evenly, and give you the best scent experience—there are a few simple steps that make all the difference.

And when you’ve invested in a clean, plant-based candle (like ours), taking care of it helps preserve not just the wax—but the intention behind it.

1. ✂️ Trim the Wick Before Each Burn

Before you light your candle, always trim the wick to about ÂĽ inch.
Why?

  • Prevents black smoke and soot

  • Helps the flame burn cleaner

  • Extends the life of your candle

✨ Pro tip: Our cotton wicks are lead-free, so trimming keeps them in peak shape without chemical buildup.

2. 🔥 Let It Burn Long Enough to Pool

The first time you burn a candle, make sure it melts all the way to the edge of the jar. This prevents what’s called tunneling—when wax builds up along the sides and wastes product.

Aim for a full melt pool (usually 2–3 hours) to ensure an even burn every time.

3. ⏳ Don’t Burn for More Than 4 Hours

As relaxing as it is, burning a candle for too long can cause the wick to mushroom and the wax to overheat—both of which affect scent and air quality.

Let the candle rest after 3–4 hours. Then relight when you're ready for round two.

4. 🌿 Burn Clean Ingredients Only

Even with perfect burning habits, your candle is only as clean as what’s in it.
